Meet the Team


Bruce Hawes ACIOB - Managing Director

Bruce started his career in the industry working as a labourer during school holidays which lead him to become a bricklaying apprentice with a local company. At the same time Bruce went to college to do his City & Guilds in bricklaying obtaining Distinctions in all his exams. This spurred him on to do his HNC where he won two top awards - The William Pankhurst Cup and The Craftsman's Cup. Bruce then joined Llewellyn's as a Management Trainee and progressed through the company to become a Contracts Manager at their Brighton office.

Bruce left Llewellyn's after serving 13 years, just after they were bought out by Rok and joined a "deconstruction" and diamond drilling company which became very successful. He then decided to fulfil a lifelong dream and set up his own construction company with his wife Sarra.


Sarra Hawes - Company Director

Sarra loved Technical Drawing at school and thought about becoming an architect's technician until she went for an interview at Hastings College and was persuaded to do a general building course. She studied for an OND for two years full time and then applied to Llewellyn's as a Management Trainee. Whilst at Llewellyn's Sarra went back to college to get a HNC in Building Studies. Sarra spent two years shadowing every department within the company from wages, buying to Plant and Timber Frame to get a complete overview of the building industry before finally settling on Site Management and becoming Llewellyn's first ever female site manager.

Sarra left after serving 15 years with Llewellyn's, just before her husband and worked for another local building company before joining Bruce to set up Hawes Building Ltd.


Lisa Pickard - Business Development & Marketing

Lisa started her working life working in a bank and soon became involved writing newsletters and organising fundraising events which ignited her love of marketing and PR. She left the bank in 1996 and became Marketing Executive at a private hospital where she ran a hospital loyalty scheme and arranged consultant seminars, corporate events and edited hospital newsletters and magazine articles. After three years a position became available at Llewellyn's for a Marketing Coordinator and Lisa joined the company reporting directly to the MD. Lisa was responsible for editing The Grapevine, a well respected magazine within the industry, as well as general marketing and PR for the Llewellyn Group nationwide. Lisa stayed with Rok when they took over Llewellyn and was based in their Crawley office for three years looking after the PR for several offices as well as organising various fundraising and corporate events

After a short career break Lisa decided to join forces with her husband to help him develop his company before starting work on a consultancy basis looking after building and roofing companies locally.


Faye Warren - Office Administrator

Married with five children Faye began her working career later in life as she decided to raise a family first. She has many years experience within office administration roles which included two prominent Taxi companies in Eastbourne. Faye joined Hawes Building in 2016 and helps Sarra with the day-to-day running of the busy office and setting new administrative system to ensure the smooth operation of the business.
