I can, you can
Hawes Building proudly took part in the ‘I Can’ careers event at the Kings Centre in Eastbourne on 22nd January, supporting students who are unwilling or unable to access mainstream opportunities.
300 young people from across Sussex were welcomed to the ‘I Can’ event, all having a range of barriers to learning and employment. These barriers include having a history of exclusion, anxiety/mental health difficulties, special education needs and disengagement with mainstream education.
The event enabled students to meet with employers, colleges, training providers and guidance agencies in a supportive environment. Interactive activities on offer to students at the event included:
- Confidence building activities with local employers
- Interactive stalls and demos hosted by local colleges and training providers
- Mock interviews with local employers
- 1-2-1 Careers guidance sessions with the Youth Employability Service
- Apprenticeship and Traineeship advice
In her roll as an Enterprise Advisor for the Skills East Sussex Enterprise Adviser Network, Sarra Hawes ran the Hawes Building workshop ;
Today was a such a valuable opportunity for the business to encourage and engage young people, both in the trades that we specialise in, as well as career opportunities across the wider construction sector.
I have met some incredible people today and I look forward to hopefully working with some of them in the future.
