Social Housing Projects
Mark Chandler joined us in March of this year and has been busy working behind the scenes setting up our new ‘Social Housing’ team.
Mark has over eighteen years’ experience in this sector. He started ‘on the tools’ which gave him anexcellent first-hand experience of the standards required and the needs of the clients and residents. His attention to detail and easy-going manner quickly identified him as a leader and he was appointed first Supervisor, then Site Manager. During the next five years he ran up to four installation teams across Sussex for a variety of clients and bearing mind that the unique way that his teams are run, this involved managing up to forty operatives. This included liaising with residents, managing work streams, waste clearance and signing off completed properties with the clients.Mark credits a lot of his learning in this period to his Contract manager and mentor Alan Kent and they certainly made a great team.
On Alan’s retirement, Mark was made Contracts Manager and this coincided with the award of a large contract which meant upscaling the operation within a very short time-frame. The ensuing period meant a team of over eighty personnel covered an average of thirty-five openings per week across the south east of England and south London. The amazing fact was that all this was achieved with Resident Satisfaction in excess of 95% and recycling rates in the high nineties. The department continued to develop and following regular team meetings, new processes were constantly implemented to ensure they were always on the ‘front foot’.
Despite this, the time was right for a new challenge and following just a couple of meetings, Mark accepted the challenge of creating a ‘Social Housing’ team at Hawes Building. Starting from scratch is never easy but already we have completed some whole property refurbishments and secured a contract for further property upgrades.
The team here can undertake all forms of carpentry, plumbing, electrical and building works within domestic and commercial properties for Social Housing landlords. We can complete kitchen and bathroom programmes as well as undertaking whole house refurbishments for a number of clients. Our unique system of surveying, programming and quality of work speaks for itself. This ensures that our clients will repeatedly return to us and indeed add additional work streams as the relationship grows.
The fact that we deliver on our promises, give a clear point of contact for clients and our straightforward dialogue means everyone involved is guaranteed added value in every way.
The increased benefit is that running the department alongside the parent building company allows us to offer their skills as part of the overall package – something our competitors can rarely do.
